Chapter 269: Knock Him Out and Rest

Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations

The surgery lasted for three hours. Murong Qiao sat outside without moving. She didn’t even go to the toilet.

Iler eyes were blank as she sat at the door of the operating theater in a daze. It was as if her soul had been sucked out, and her hands were as cold as a dead person’s.

Murong Qiao sat quietly on the chair and couldn’t make a sound. If it weren’t for the fact that she was still breathing, others would probably think that she was just a statue.

The sound of the door opening was soft, especially conspicuous in the empty and silent corridor.

Murong Qiao looked up abruptly.

The expected hospital bed didn’t appear. Instead, a nurse was at the door.

“Hello, are you the patient’s family?” The nurse asked her with a list.

Murong Qiao couldn’t help but nod. “I’m his girlfriend. How is it?”

As she spoke, she got up from the chair. However, she got up too quickly and her vision turned black. She almost fell back with the inertia, and her body could not move like a rusty machine.

“The patient has just finished the surgery. His condition is stable and there are no other problems. He will be transferred to a normal ward for recuperation in five minutes. Please sign here. When you have time, go to the front desk of the hospital to pay the related fees,” the nurse reported as usual.

Some of the preoperative forms were also placed here. However, Huo Yichen had arrived in a hurry just now and a life was suddenly at stake, so they couldn’t care less.

Murong Qiao signed her name neatly and chatted with the nurse for a while. After learning that the patient had a special passage back to the ward after the surgery, she asked for Huo Yichen’s ward location and walked over.

“Huo Yichen!” She immediately saw Huo Yichen lying in the ward.

Fortunately, there was no one else in the ward except for Huo Yichen. Murong Qiao’s exclamation was not noisy. The moment she saw him, Murong Qiao jogged over and looked at him by the bed.

The person who was called could not respond. He was still unconscious.

When she got closer, Murong Qiao noticed that Huo Yichen’s face and lips were a little pale. He must have lost too much blood.

The originally beautiful black hair was also ruined by the white bandages. It was wrapped around his head twice, and one could vaguely see blood seeping through. Looking down, there were also many thick bandages on his chest and legs. He looked like a mummy.

Seeing him like this, Murong Qiao felt a lump in her throat and tears welled up in her eyes. The tears she couldn’t hold back just now fell again.

She had never seen Huo Yichen suffer so much. These injuries looked so painful, not to mention how much pain he had to endure after experiencing the car accident.

“Oh,” the person on the bed suddenly said.

Murong Qiao thought that Huo Yichen had woken up. She was so frightened that she hurried over, but she only saw Huo Yichen’s frown and heard his weak breathing.

Contrary to Murong Qiao’s expectations, Huo Yichen seemed to only groan in pain before falling silent again.

This time, when she got closer, Murong Qiao saw that Huo Yichen’s dry lips were slightly cracked and so she quickly went to the side to find a cotton swab and a clean glass of water. She then sat by the bed and dipped a cotton swab into the water to moisten Huo Yichen’s lips.

In the end, he sweated again after a while, so Murong Qiao went to get a towel to help wipe him down.

She went in and out of the ward several times, walking back and forth as if she didn’t know what was going on. Even though the nurse on night duty was dozing off, Murong Qiao didn’t dare to close her eyes.

Murong Qiao took care of Huo Yichen all night. Even when the sky turned bright, she sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze never leaving Huo Yichen.

Murong Zheng saw this scene when he came over.

“You need to rest.” He walked over and said.

Murong Zheng still had work to do after the surgery. In addition, Huo Yichen’s surgery had consumed a lot of his energy, so he came over a little late to check on the patient.

However, when he arrived at the ward, Murong Qiao, who was taking care of the patient, seemed to be in a worse state than the patient.

Murong Zheng frowned in disagreement. His gaze landed on Murong Qiao and he realized that she had run out wearing only a thin sweater.

Hearing Murong Zheng’s voice, Murong Qiao still couldn’t move away from the bed.

She looked at Huo Yichen, who had yet to open his eyes. Her voice could not be any softer. “I have to watch over him.”

Murong Qiao’s voice was also hoarse. Her originally clear and pleasant voice became rough, like a piece of sandpaper rubbing against something.

She didn’t sleep the entire night to take care of Huo Yichen, so her entire body was like a taut string that could easily break if she exerted a little strength.

But Murong Qiao didn’t break. While she was worried about Huo Yichen, she also remembered what Mother Huo had told her.

If Huo Yichen was in trouble, Mother Huo would definitely be sad.

There wasn’t much she could do except to stay by Huo Yichen’s side.

At the very least, she had to see him wake up safe and sound.

“I’ll guard him,” Murong Qiao repeated, her eyes firm.

She seemed to be rejecting Murong Zheng, but she also seemed to be reminding herself.

Seeing his Little Sister like this, Murong Zheng only felt that Huo Yichen had no right to let his sister take care of him like this. However, at the same time, he felt sorry for Murong Qiao.

She was his sister after all. Murong Zheng didn’t say anything when she rejected him. He just walked to Murong Qiao’s side.

The nurse behind Murong Zheng thought that Murong Zheng was going to say something outrageous to chase her away, but Murong Zheng knocked Murong Qiao out with the back of his hand and carried her up.

The nurse was dumbfounded. “Dr. Murong, this… this isn’t good, right?”

Although she had heard of Murong Zheng’s “prowess” when she came here to work, she had never expected him to do this!

At the thought of the strength of the orthopedic doctor’s hand, the young nurse felt a chill run down her spine.

Murong Zheng’s attention was mostly on Murong Qiao, so when he heard the nurse’s words, he only glanced at her coldly.

“This is my sister. What’s wrong with that?” he spat out.

After saying that, Murong Zheng took Murong Qiao to his usual lounge without looking at Huo Yichen.

He was the one who performed the surgery, so Murong Zheng naturally knew what state Huo Yichen was in.

Now that Murong Qiao had become like this to take care of him, as her Big Brother, Murong Zheng couldn’t stand it anymore. He simply knocked her out to let Murong Qiao rest.

Murong Zheng then carried Murong Qiao to the camp bed in the lounge. Although the bed was not big, it was more than enough for Murong Qiao to lie on.

“Why are you so thin?” Murong Zheng frowned.

He carried Murong Qiao all the way and felt that Murong Qiao was a little too light.

Murong Zheng looked at Murong Qiao’s face. He felt that her slightly chubby face was now exposed and her jaw line had become sharp. It was obvious that she did not have much flesh.

He then stared at Murong Qiao’s body. She was obviously not sleeping well. She was curled up in a ball like she was feeling insecure. She wrapped her arms around herself as if she was very cold.

“…” Murong Zheng was silent for a moment before he took his coat and covered Murong Qiao with it.

His obsession with cleanliness seemed to have lost its effect in front of his Little Sister. In the past, he would feel dirty when ordinary people came into contact with him or his things, but when he saw Murong Qiao covered in his clothes, he didn’t feel disgusted at all.

Just like that, Murong Qiao fell into a deep sleep. In her dream, she was running.

The road seemed to have no end. Her breath smelled of blood, but she did not dare to close her eyes, because there was always a voice in her heart saying that she could not rest.

However, she was really tired. She was so tired that she could not even lift her feet. Until she suddenly smelled the smell of disinfectant, she finally relaxed.

Warmth enveloped her entire body, causing Murong Qiao to let down her guard. Her tightly pursed lips also relaxed, and she finally got a long-awaited

rest..
