Chapter 575: Trignis Gloves

To his surprise, the description really became a lot more comprehensive and the ego had been restored. After his improvised surgery, it had only taken 15 to 20 minutes for the ego to restore itself. Although it was probably not perfectly fine, the speed was impressive.

Seeing the soul was repaired, Seth saw no reason not to finish what he started. The further steps were a lot easier compared to the experimental operation he had just performed. He split the soul into two parts, connected by a thin thread, and started forging them into copies of the Gloves of the Firespririt.

The clean design Tored and N?del came up with made this step especially easy.

The blacksmith had to curb his excitement and stay calm when he could finally start on engraving the sigil he had been looking forward to since he unlocked it. The blessing of Phlegethon. One of the rivers of Hades, the river of flowing fire.

He had unlocked this enchantment when he reached lv. 5 of . There was also the Fire of Phlegethon he knew since level one, but that was more fit for a weapon, like the Ice of Cocytos he tested on the chain mail.

However, a blessing was different. It would call upon the chthonic river god himself to choose an appropriate blessing for the item. Seth couldn’t help but imagine the gloves becoming the ultimate fire elemental treasure.

It was also paying homage to his friend and master. If he managed to improve the item to such an extent, they would be no need to ever exchange it for something better and he could wear this gift for the rest of his life.

As great as the potential was, it was also a risk. Seth had no idea whether the characteristics of the soul would have an effect on the outcome. This was also an experiment and he risked losing such a powerful soul.

But he had hope. After seeing that materials would keep their fundamental properties, even with the addition of an Olympian enchantment, he was like 80% sure it would the same for the soul. Maybe it would end up being similar to the Obsessive Forger’s soul indirectly gaining the blessing of a demon big shot.

He took a deep breath, loosened his shoulders, and got ready for the first stroke of the engraving. The feeling of a powerful presence looking over his shoulder had already become a familiar one. Th entity observing him gave him a heavy and foreboding feeling at first.

Conversely, Seth felt his mind clear off a burden he was not aware of before. His concentration rose and his hands grew steadier. It was a more fundamental change than or that Forgeright offered him.

The engraving went smoothly and he soon finished the sigil that resembled a ribbon of flowing fire. Upon finishing a tremendous power flowed into the engraving and it started spreading over the soul. The two soul armament gloves were now covered in a pattern of tribal flames that seemed almost alive.

All that was left to do now, was for Seth to infuse the Soul into the two gloves and finish it all with a bath in the waters of Styx.

He heard some notifications, however, he was slightly disappointed when there was no synergy with his trait. If he was honest, Seth also didn’t expect it. He didn’t know any Olympian myths about special gloves. It was obvious, that his trait would not always activate, especially if there was no strong connection to anything.

The blacksmith also found that the proficiency and rewards he gained for making this legendary item were a lot less than what he got for Forgeright. Even so, he didn’t think that the rewards would become progressively less. He guessed that he earned less because he was already working with a finished legendary item and didn’t make it from scratch.

It felt like the system telling him “Good, job! You didn’t ruin a perfectly good item.” and giving him a small boon. After wondering about it for a moment, Seth finally pulled the finished gloves out of the bubble of water and inspected them with gleaming eyes.

Seth’s jaw dropped. There were many obvious and some subtle changes that made his mouth water. Aside from some of the base stats improving, the options named three kinds of flames, which was most likely the origin of its name, the Trignis Gloves.

The moment he put on the gloves, he immediately understood the meaning of these three entries. When Seth first gained the skill of he learned that there were special flames and fires he could tame or contract with.

His spirit flames were one such flame. Contracting or taming these fires gave one the ability to change an ordinary fire attack into attacks of this fire’s nature. The three flames mentioned in the description of the glove were also such flames.

Seth could feel that they were three distinct fires with different characteristics. The Salamander Fire was a pure flame, closest to ordinary, natural fire.

The fire of Phlegethon seemed dark, murky, and heavy. Inert and sluggish it gave off a feeling of rolling mud and thick smoke. However, the blacksmith could feel there was more to it than was visible at first glance.

Lastly, there was the Draconic Titan Flame. It seemed like this was a synergy between the fire dragon bones from the glove and the inherent fire properties of the titan soul. This fire felt terrifying and oppressive. It was clear that this was a fire with very strong damage.

With these three and his original spirit flames, Seth now had four options to use aside from ordinary fire. Especially the latter two drew his interest. The other changes happened to the set effect, then they were not any less mouth-watering.

The most subtle change was probably Fire Absorption, which became a free toggle skill, and lost a lot of its former restrictions. Now Seth could even use the fires he started himself, to replenish his health and even his mana, to a lesser degree.

The most obvious change was the addition of two skills and an ability.

Flame Aura allowed him to cover himself in a protective layer of dense fire that could also be used to attack. He could also accomplish this using , but with this skill, he would no longer have to concentrate on not burning his own clothes.

The principles were also slightly different from just covering himself in a fire. The blacksmith felt the need to test this skill in actual combat to really understand it. Looking at the skill, one of them was easy to understand.

“Wash your neck.”

The floodfires of Phlegethon are summoned and wash away the sinners. Targets will be judged and suffer more damage according to their sins in addition to base damage. >

The last one was the most mind-boggling, as it was a rendition of his accidental success with Al’Zalsar.

“To see the world burn”

Summon the mutated Fire Titan Iknaes to assist you in battle. >

What Seth couldn’t understand was how exactly this function came to be, since he didn’t have any material of Iknaes’ original body that could help in this synergy. It was only after reading the description of the skills, that things started falling into place for Seth.

The Fire was called the “Dragonic Titan Flame” and he could summon the “Draconic Fire Titan”. Adding to this the notification and the skill description calling him a mutated Fire Titan, Seth came to the assumption that it had to do with the fire dragon bone plates.

He could only make the conjecture that Fire Dragon and Fire Titans might be an example of convergent evolution. Maybe their bones were so similar to each other, that the dragon bones could act as a sufficient medium, just like the original remains of the titan.

This was just his guess, in the end, he had no reason to complain about being given the option to summon another companion into battle. Especially, since he came to the conclusion that these soul summons were technically immortal, as long as the item that inherited the soul was not destroyed.

Seth realized how far he had come, that he was able to think of a mighty Fire Titan, as an expendable minion. All the improvements sounded powerful, but to truly get an idea of their effect, he would have to test them.

It was late at night already, but Seth decided to give the training rooms a visit.
