Chapter 40: Chase
"Hmm, " Leon held in his hand a small purple pill the size of a peanut.
This pill was given to him by Kilian as a reward for killing the most wyrm. this caught Leon by surprise, but then again, who knows what usually went through the minds of strong people like him.
Leon didn't know that Kilian couldn't care less about him. The pill was a trash pill to him, what he had gotten was a 100 times better than that puny pill.
"Hmp!!" Anan sneered while he causally walked past Leon. So what, that Leon had gotten the reward? He was a dead man walking anyway.
Once this whole thing was over, he would torture Leon to death himself.
"Something's wrong" While they walked down a particular tunnel they found. Arian commented. The place was too quiet, the area was once crawling with Wyrms and even though they had dispersed after the treasure was plucked. There was no reason for them to completely disappear.
"Most definitely," Kilian responded with a callous confidence. There was absolutely something wrong, but he could tell that they were already too deep inside to avoid whatever it was.
After a few minutes of walking they came upon a tunnel 10x the size of theirs, and couldn't help be stare In awe. What kind of creature should create something like this?
It was so big that they could probably fit in a building in here, and the way it looked made them believe it was burrowed by a creature, but what kind of creature could do this?
—Dumdum dum
While they were in shock at the sheer size of the tunnel, a small quake shook their feet, following which a carriage zoomed past them from nowhere.
—Zoom!!!
On the carriage there were two figures, one was a lady In leather amour with brown hair and the other was a chubby elder with a goatee. Leon was able to recognize both.
The first was lady Liana, the matriarch of the Blood Serpent Clan, and the other was the first elder of the blood serpent clan.
These were the two most powerful individuals of the blood serpent clan and the target of the Tamlin group. However, the speed at which they ran was too much for them to even react. They looked like they were running from something.
—Roar!!!!!
Soon enough, they found out the reason for this level of heist. As a Massive serpent who's body nearly touched the ceiling of the tunnel came slithering past them at lightening speed.
"Shitt!!" Anan and several others immediately took a few steps back, shocked by the size of this monster. They had never seen something like this in their entire lives. It was shocking to the core.
"This..." The sliver death knight had a look of shock in his eyes too as he watched the serpent speed past them. It didn't even act as if it noticed them. Only focusing on going after its targets.
He was at a lost on what to do. The matriarch had dashing away before his very eyes, and she was immediately followed by this colossal creature. What could he even do?
"Kilian, jump on!!!"
While he was in this state of shock and confusion, he heard a voice resound from the down the path that the colossal serpent had come out from.
"Is that?" He immediately looked outside and saw the figure of a bearded man in long robes standing on top a carriage staring him down while the carriage Zoom towards them.
"Let's go" he didn't think twice, he grabbed Leon and Anan before leaping into the air and landing atop the moving carriage.
He wasn't the only one who moved, Arian and Dorian executed the exact same move. This carriage belonged to the commander of the death squad, commander Alaric.
He was following the serpent closely to kill it, little did he know that his main targets were just in front of this serpent.

A few minutes later.
"Are you sure ?" Alaric asked with a frown forming visibly on his face. Kilian had just explained to him that in front of the massive serpent, Liana and the first elder of the blood serpent clan were currently speeding off.
This brought him some momentary excitement, but then the next words that came out of his mouth made him frown. The serpent in front of him was not a jade tail swallow snake.
In a matter of fact, Kilian himself didn't know what species it was. All he knew was that this creature was absolutely not normal.
"Mentain this distance and stop the attacks" the commander, Alaric commanded and Kilian immediately relaid it.
This monster was a massive question mark. They had to tread carefully, but they couldn't just let Liana go like that. They had no choice. The chase had to continue.
Meanwhile, Leon, who was seated at the top of the carriage with Kilian, Alaric and Anan looked at a pill in his hand.
"Down the hatch, I guess?" Leon stilled himself and threw the pill into his mouth. He had taken his time, had thoroughly investigated the pill. It didn't seem harmful, so he downed it.
Whatever they would face when they got to Liana wouldn't be easy. He had to be strong enough to survive.

At the front where Liana sat.
"The tunnel is becoming larger" the first elder of the blood serpent clan commented.
The walls of the tunnel were becoming wider and the ceiling further, they were about to enter a big pocket in the mountain range.
"Yes, Prepare to increase speed" Liana said seriously.
The cave becoming wider meant the serpent would have more room for movement, it would soon becoming faster.
Of course, the space didn't only benefit it, it also gave them more room to maneuver. If they played their cards right. They might survive this.
