1827 Desperate Desire Not To Get Caught

“Uncle Changfeng.”

It was none other than Huo Changfeng on the phone.

When Shangguan Tong heard the name, her head was facing the car window, but she automatically stopped looking out of the window. Even her breathing went soft.

Huo Yao acted as though she did not notice Aunt Tong’s reaction and continued on the phone. “… Yes, my phone was flat.”

Huo Changfeng finally felt relieved after hearing this. “I’m glad you’re fine. Oh yes. Yaoyao, when are you coming back?”

Huo Yao checked the time. “In about two hours.”

Huo Yao tapped her knee gently. She paused for a couple of seconds and asked voluntarily before Huo Changfeng could speak. “Uncle Changfeng, why are you calling me so late? Did something happen at the hospital?”

Huo Changfeng had called to get an update about the test for potential heirs. When Huo Yao misunderstood, he explained. “Nothing happened at the hospital…”

Huo Yao interrupted him instead and suddenly put on a serious expression. “Did Eldest Uncle’s condition suddenly aggravate?”

Huo Changfeng was promptly stunned.

Did he say that?

Before he could react, Huo Yao’s voice could be heard again. “Okay then. I will get to the hospital as soon as possible. Give me some time.”

“No…” Huo Changfeng’s cheek felt a twitch. Before he could speak, Huo Yao hung up the phone.

Huo Changfeng went speechless.

What was Miss Huo trying to get at?

Huo Jinfeng was slowly eating by the side. He glanced at the chief steward and noticed a dumb expression on his face. He could not help rapping his chopsticks on his bowl. “What did Yaoyao say?”

Huo Changfeng slowly removed his phone from his ear. After half a minute, he seemed to finally get it. He looked up at Master Jinfeng and said, “I think Miss Huo might already know that you have regained consciousness.”

When she mentioned Master Jinfeng’s condition aggravating, she must be testing him.

That had to be it.

Huo Jinfeng promptly coughed, making him pull his wound, so his face turned pale. “How did she find out? Didn’t I tell you to keep it a secret?”

Huo Jinfeng relaxed slightly. His niece had done her utmost to save him, but the moment he regained consciousness, he did not tell her about it. A guilty feeling inexplicable emerged in his heart.

Wouldn’t Yaoyao feel awful learning about it?

Huo Jinfeng stopped eating, stood up, and said anxiously, “Go on. Prepare the car and send me back to the hospital immediately.”

Huo Changfeng’s lips twitched when he saw Huo Jinfeng’s desperate desire not to get caught by his niece. “Why don’t you eat first? Miss Huo probably won’t get back so quickly…”

“I’m not feeling well. I just want to get back to the hospital to lie down, okay?” said Huo Jinfeng mildly.

Huo Changfeng gave up. “…Whatever you say then.”

***

After hanging up the phone, Huo Yao clearly looked anxious.

Min Yu glanced at the rearview mirror as he drove from the driver’s seat. As he drove, he sped up consciously and asked. “Did something happen on Uncle Changfeng’s end?”

Huo Yao veered her head and looked out of the window. After some time, she acknowledged softly. Anyone could detect the suppressed tone in her voice.

Shangguan Tong was sitting beside her and her face looked pale. She was unable to stay composed.

She asked with great difficulty. “Didn’t your eldest uncle’s condition stabilize already? Why did it suddenly aggravate?”
