Chapter 9: First evolution: The Dreadwing mosquito

"Alright, time to allocate these stat points strategically." Ben pondered his options.

He considered the challenges he had faced and the skills he possessed. His agility had proven useful in escaping the spider's web, but he also needed to increase his strength and stamina for future encounters.

After careful consideration, Ben decided to distribute his stat points as follows:

Strength: +0.2

Agility: +0.1

Stamina: +0.1

With his increased strength, Ben hoped to deliver more powerful attacks and defend himself better against potential threats. The boost to his agility and stamina would enhance his overall mobility and endurance, allowing him to navigate through various environments and engage in prolonged battles if necessary.

Satisfied with his choices, Ben felt an uneasy feeling in his heart. After spending this much time in this world, he knew that each decision he made would have some effect on his life.

"System! Is there a way to heal my middle left leg by any chance?" Ben asked with hesitation, not sure what to expect as an answer. If this world is really like a fantasy world, then healing a leg shouldn't be much of an issue. But if it is not possible, then Ben will be handicapped for life.

[Computing...]

[Host will get a full body recovery upon reaching an evolution point.]

The system's response echoed in Ben's mind, providing him with a glimmer of hope. If he continued to level up and evolve, there was a possibility that his missing leg would be restored.

In the remaining four of the five main quests, there was no time limit for any specific quest, but the total time limit remained at 45 days. Ben had no idea if this was an appropriate time limit or not since he didn't know how much time it would take him to complete each one of the quests.

One more thing that Ben noticed is that the system will give him an instant quest if situations like that arrive on the spot. For the next hour, Ben tried to emit different death scenarios in the hope of the system giving him an instantaneous quest, but it all seemed to be of no use.

"Show me the second quest." Tired that no option was working, Ben decided to participate in the second quest without wasting more time.

─» Consume different types of blood from 25 different species.

─» (01/25) consumed.

[Reward: (5 exp/sample)]

....

The quest seemed to revolve around Ben's ability to consume blood from various species. It intrigued him, as he had already relied on blood to sustain himself in this world. Now, it appeared that the only way for him to level up was by consuming various blood samples.

Pounding about the possibilities, Ben accepted the quest with a buzz of his wings. As he set out on his quest, Ben's senses sharpened, attuned to the presence of potential blood sources. He flew through diverse environments, searching for different species to feed on.

[Passive Skill Activated: Blood Tracer]

As soon as the notification popped up in front of Ben, the world around him turned a light red color, with red flame-like shapes coming out of the living things. He noticed that, unlike active skills, he didn't need to chant the skill name to use passive skills.

As soon as the skill was activated, the normal vision of the world was replaced by a green-red vision. Different colors denoted different things as if he were seeing things as energy, not as a mass. In that vision, there was one color completely off from any other energy, it was red flame-like energy coming from creatures. As if the color was depicting life energy.

"Is this something like a thermosensor camera from my world? Except for the red color, I guess yes, it is." Ben concluded that he was looking for a life source around him. Unlike the previous time, Ben was able to detect a blood source in barely any time. This again proved the usefulness of passive skills.

"That was fast."

Ben buzzed, surprised by the speed at which he was flying. Not only could he fly almost twice as fast as before, but he was also able to fly higher than the last time.

"Let's go, system."

["..."]

As he approached the energy source, he saw a group of cattle grazing in a nearby field. The red flame-like shapes intensified around them, indicating their availability as a potential food source. Ben descended gracefully, landing softly on a nearby branch to observe the situation before making his move.

He observed an eight-foot-tall, massive goat-like animal with five big horns, and its body felt as if it were made of metallic spikes. It was as if it were a cross-species between goats and deer.

"What the hell is that thing?" Ben asked with wide eyes but didn't wait for an answer as he continued himself. "Well, whatever it is, it's going to be a good blood source."

Without hesitation, Ben took flight again, zooming towards the mutant creatures with precision and speed. He approached from behind, careful not to alert the animal to his presence. With a swift motion, he pierced the mutant creature's skin with his fangs, extracting a small amount of blood.

There was a very small amount of blood that Ben could store in his belly; if he'd drank excess blood from just one anima, he wouldn't be able to complete the second quest in time. That's why he decided to just taste a blood sample so that he could increase the species count.

As Ben consumed the mutant creature's blood, he felt a surge of energy coursing through his tiny body. The taste differed from anything he had experienced before; it was tinged with a metallic flavor and a hint of energy. Unlike the mutant bull's blood, this one felt an energy sensation, as if he had stuck his tongue in a battery.

"Ding!!"
