‘This isn’t Demonic Qi, what is this vile energy?’
Li Shen thought.
He didn’t know where it came from, and he hadn't sensed it before it entered Jun.
Li Shen’s face was serious as his Divine Will moved. Strangely, but luckily, the vile dark energy was very weak against his attempts to force it out.
In just a few seconds, the dark miasma poured out of Jun’s pores to gather above his body. Li Shen immediately trapped the dark miasma with his Divine Will after getting all of it out of Jun’s system. Looking at it, it was only the size of a baby’s fist.
Despite how weak it was, what was strange was how it mercilessly ran ramped in Jun’s body unimpeded. With his current cultivation and power, Jun should have easily been able to prevent this thing from infiltrating his body. But for some reason known, Jun’s Righteous Qi was ineffective against it.
It was like a parasite that had immunity to his Righteous Qi. If Li Shen hadn't react quickly, this little bit of dark energy could have corrupted Jun’s very being before killing him by devouring his cultivation, soul, and body.
It was actually quite horrifying how this affected Jun leaving him no room to fight back against it. Such strange energy being able to do this was giving Li Shen a bad feeling.
“What is that?”
Lihua asked as she held Jun and put some distance between the dark miasma and them.
Jun's face was ashen and looked worn out and fatigued. The black veins on his face and arms along with the streaks in his hair slowly faded away.
But what he felt just now might have scarred him. He had never felt this level of helplessness since Li Shen had saved him from becoming a slave in the slums. That was how traumatic this short experience was for him. In only a matter of seconds, whatever that thing was had completely incapacitated him and almost tore apart his body from the inside.
Jun was so weak he was barely able to open his mouth to swallow the pill Lihua was feeding him.
Li Shen didn't respond, instead, he narrowed his eyes while staring at the dark miasma he trapped.
“Yang Su, help me.”
Yang Su perked up and seeing Li Shen shifting the Spiritual Qi in the surroundings, he immediately understood what he meant.
With Li Shen’s lead, both he and Yang Su pushed away the Spiritual Qi away from the twenty-meter clearing.
Immediately as all the Spiritual Qi was shoved out of this area, dark miasma slowly started to appear in the world. It was as if it was blending with Spiritual Qi and was using it as a cover before. But the strange thing Li Shen realize that it wasn’t intentional doing it, this was just this energy's state of being.
This was the reason why Li Shen hadn’t sensed.
Jun’s body shivered at the sight, but Li Shen’s Divine Will had long encapsulated him and everyone else.
Outside his dome-like Divine Will shield, the dark miasma swirled around. It seemed as if it detest being exposed and out in the open.
Li Shen looked through the dark miasma and stared at the Tiger-like Spirit Beasts to find that it was their corpses that were giving off the dark miasma.
“Faction Leader!”
Lihua suddenly called out.
Li Shen and the others turned to her to see her face was solemn.
“I knew I sensed this energy before, it’s the same one I felt when I encountered Fang Chen. But this dark miasma as nowhere as corrupt as the energy around him back then.”
Li Shen’s face harden as he turned back to look at the dark miasma.
The baby's fist size he had, he moved it outside of his dome protection and allow it to join the rest.
“Yang Su, burn those Spirit Beasts' corpses.”
Yang Su nodded before he left his palm.
He was already helping Li Shen to push away the Spiritual Qi. Along with no Qi being in the surroundings and his control being stretch-thinned, he only managed to conjure a fist-size fireball that he toss towards the Spirit Beasts' corpses several meters away.
Li Shen watched as the fire ball made an arch in the air before landing on one of the corpses and spreading to the others. In an instant, fire encapsulate them and began burning them to ash.
Li Shen came to several conclusions from observing that and the speculations he thought of previously were confirmed.
His main conclusions were, one, the dark miasma only affects Jun for some reason. Judging from its vile nature it’s likely reacting to his pure Righteous Qi specifically.
Two, it’s not Demonic Qi but Spiritual Qi, a Unique Spiritual Qi to be more accurate.
And three, not only can it use normal Spiritual Qi as a host to remain undetected…
Li Shen watched as the corpses were burned to ashes but the dark miasma was still there.
...This Unique Qi also doesn't dissipate like normal Spiritual Qi. It lingers around like a ghost unable to pass on to the afterlife.
Everyone remained silent as Li Shen made his observations.
“Let’s returned to the ship.”
Li Shen said after a while.
As a group they all slowly floated up towards the ship, Li Shen’s Divine Will still encapsulating them his focus was especially on Jun.
Yang Su following Li Shen's lead slowly made the Spiritual Qi return to the twenty-meter clearing. As it did, everyone watched as the dark miasma fade away, but they knew it was definitely still there.
As they came onto the boat, Mu Fan was the first to ask.
“It doesn’t seem to be affecting anything else besides Jun, but are we still just going to leave that miasma there? At the very least we should exorcise that thing from this Dimension.”
Mu Fan spoke as if the vile energy was a haunting ghost.
Li Shen shook his head and responded with a short pause.
“I… don’t know how to get rid of it.”
Mu Fan for some reason was taken aback when he heard Li Shen say that. Maybe it was because this was the first time he heard Li Shen admit to not being able to do something.
After knowing him for as long as he had, he was used to Li Shen’s self-assured temperament, this was too foreign to him.
Li Shen ignored Mu Fan’s blank stare at him and instead turned to Jun.
“Are you alright?”
Jun still being supported by Lihua nodded and said.
“I’m okay Master.”
Li Shen nodded, but before he turned to leave Jun said.
“I-I think I know where brother Fang Chen might be.”
Li Shen looked in the direction Jun was pointing to see that it was towards the Eastern Territory.
Jun continued.
“I had been trying all this time to find him using our connected Karma String, but it was like the connection was being blocked by something, or rather something was hindering my senses. But I think after being infected by that dark miasma, the connection has been restored, but only slightly and I can feel it getting fainter by the second.”
‘Everyone is improving.’
Li Shen couldn’t help but comment in his mind.
In this short time, he received help from Fei Yin, Yang Su, and now Jun. And to be honest, if not for Fei Yin and possibly Jun as well, Li Shen would have no idea how to find Fang Chen in this large Dimension.
Li Shen abandon his original single-minded plan to search for Fang Chen and said.
“Lead the way until the Karma String connection fades away.”
As the boat moved and Jun took over for Fei Yin, Li Shen ironically realize the direction he was leading them towards was likely the Demon Grotto.
As Li Shen's palm was placed flat on the control pillar inside the hut-like bridge of the ship, his other hand clenched tightly.
He couldn’t help but blame himself for putting Fang Chen's current condition. He was the one who had placed him in the Demon Grotto.
Li Shen didn’t tell the others, but that black miasma was similar to the aura surrounding the Demon Grotto. He had been there a couple of times, it was filled with specter-like beings and Spirit Beasts that had been turned into ghouls that cannibalize their own kind.
The strongest existences inside was around the Core Formation realm, with the common level beings roaming around being in the Foundation Realm.
The place was permeated with a strong killing aura. Li Shen was hoping that Fang Chen’s condition wasn’t like he thought.
“How could he be stupid enough to try and absorb the killing aura? I sent him there not to absorb it directly but to kill the beasts inside the Demon Grotto to develop his own. I even specifically left him a message in both jade slips I gave him that said to not try and absorb it, but he…”
Li Shen couldn’t finish his words as he was way too upset.
When he found Fang Chen, he was going to beat the crap out of him for not listening to his commands as the Faction Leader.
