"Kyaa," Ye Ming cried out in shock, but then seeing this was only water and also hot falling on her, she felt astonished, as droplets amassed on their hair and clothes, Ye Ming laughed with unbridled joy. She twirled around, spinning until she was dizzy.

Ye Kai and Ye Ming lingered in the warm stream of water, their skin glowing pink, they washed each other's backs, then lathered their hair with shampoo that smelled like springtime. Eventually, they heard a faint call from their mother, who was preparing breakfast outside. They stepped out reluctantly and quickly put on clothes to keep warm.

Ye Kai entered the kitchen, and a wave of warmth hit him first. His mother stood at the stove in a sleek black sleeveless dress, which had absorbed the heat from the flames, causing a sheen of sweat to cover her forehead. Her movements were swift as she expertly flipped each pancake onto the plate before carrying it over to the table.

"Yes, I go and wake her." Ye Kai said and then he turned and walked to his fourth mother's room.

He pushed open the door and saw his fourth mother sprawled across the bed, her smooth skin illuminated by a thin beam of moonlight streaming through the window. Her arms were lax at her sides and her chest rose and fell rhythmically with each breath.

Ye Kai's gaze fell on some papers strewn across the floor, and he was shocked to see his own face, his mother's face, and Ye Ming's face sketched on the pages. He examined each of the skillfully drawn portraits in disbelief.
